There are many people who suffer from Lyme Disease, often referred to as Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, and essential oils can help. Lyme disease is a bacterial infection that is caused by the bite of an infected tick. This infection comes from the microorganism Borrelia burgdorferi. Symptoms of the inflammatory response to this microorganism include flu-like symptoms, joint pain, neurological problems and rash. Traditional medicine treats Lyme disease with antibiotics – which often takes care of it, especially if it is caught in the early stages.
Most people are aware of the overexposure we get to antibiotics today, as they are given to chickens and cows, which we then eat and get “dosed” with antibiotics unwittingly. Or, we are given antibiotics for every little illness that we encounter, often when antibiotics won’t even help our situation – such as when we have a virus. Thus, we have become antibiotic-resistant, and more powerful antibiotics are required to get results, or we have to take multiple rounds of several antibiotics….. Then, because these antibiotics are non-discriminant (meaning they kill everything, even the good bacteria that we need for a healthy immune system), we are left with a compromised immune system, and our body’s ability to fight off infection and other microorganisms is no longer able to keep us optimally healthy.
So, what are we supposed to do? We cannot ignore Lyme disease, but we are hesitant to take round after round of antibiotics, knowing that it is making us more antibiotic resistant. Enter Young Living Therapeutic Grade essential oils! Long before there were pharmaceutical companies, nature has provided us with natural antibiotics through plants like oregano, thyme, clove, melissa, myrrh, and others.
Before we talk about possible applications of essential oils to address Lyme disease after exposure, let’s talk about prevention. Young Living has an essential oil blend called Purification that repels fleas and ticks. Here are a few uses for this amazing oil blend:
So, put Purification essential oil on your body, as well as spritzing it on your clothing to repel those pesky ticks for prevention. For your animals, you can put a drop at the base of their neck, between the shoulder blades, to repel ticks and fleas.
And here’s a recipe for Natural Flea & Tick Prevention With Essential Oils
Mix in stainless steel bowl:
1/2 tsp alcohol
1 drop Young Living Cedarwood oil
3 drops Young Living Purification oil
2 drops Young Living Lavender oil
2 drop Young Living Citronella
1 drop Young Living Thyme oil
3 drops Young Living orange oil
Soak pet’s collar in mixture until all is absorbed. Allow to dry completely. This is good for 30 days.
You can also use it as a spray on humans or soak some fabric bands and put around wrists and ankles.
Now, let’s talk about what you might choose to do if you know you already have Lyme disease. According to the Essential Oils Desk Reference, one could use Young Living oils that are known to be highly anti-microbial, like thyme, clove, melissa, oregano, myrrh, eucalyptus blue and ocotea, as well as oil blends made by Young Living, such as Thieves, Melrose and Exodus II. These oils could be diffused for 1/2 hour every 4-6 hours, or as desired, in a cold-air diffuser, such as the Aroma Ace diffuser.
The Essential Oils Desk Reference also suggests that you might choose to ingest oils like Thieves, thyme, clove, melissa, oregano, or ocotea by putting 2-3 drops of oil in a capsule filled with olive oil, 3 times per day. Another option, which would be my choice, is to take the Inner Defense™ capsules made by Young Living up to 5 times per day.
Young Living’s Inner Defense™ reinforces systemic defenses, creates unfriendly terrain for yeast/fungus, promotes healthy respiratory function, and contains potent essential oils like oregano, thyme, and Thieves® which are rich in thymol, carvacrol, and eugenol for immune support. The liquid softgels dissolve quickly for maximum results.
And if you have taken antibiotics, there’s a good chance that your immune system is already compromised by having all the “good” bacteria removed – so be sure to take Young Living’s Life 5™ Priobiotics regularly to help re-establish the healthy flora in your gut that is necessary for good immune function. A high-potency probiotic, Life 5™ represents the culmination of years of extensive research. Life 5™ builds and restores core intestinal health by providing five clinically proven probiotic strains including two advanced super strains to enhance intestinal health, sustain energy and improve immunity. Life 5™ contains 8 billion active cultures and improves colonization up to 10 times. Life 5 pdf
It is not often that I include other recommendations in my blog, as it is meant to be specifically about essential oils and oil-enhanced products; but today I am going to share another “plan of attack” for Lyme disease, because it is often very difficult to get relief from Lyme disease. If I were suffering with Lyme disease, I would most certainly attack it with essential oils from Young Living, and I would also use the Biomat to come at it from another approach. You can read all about their recommendations for its use with Lyme disease here.
In summary, this summer be sure to use Young Living Therapeutic Grade essential oils to keep the ticks and other bugs away; and if you are exposed to any kind of tick bite, take precautionary measures to kill any kind of microorganism that might be invading your body from a tick bite with essential oils – but remember, if you are using oils and expecting a therapeutic result, be sure you are using Young Living Therapeutic Grade.
